Call me tamed, call me typical, you can even call me a conformist, but I work out at FitnessWorld in Kits. But of the many things that my college football days taught me, that dungeon gym I used to sweat in taught me that it’s not what you got, it’s how you use it, and a good workout has to hurt.
I’m not a sadomasochist or anything (even though it helps in football) a good workout has to feel like what it’s work out. Which brings me to my own person oxymoron, given the fact that I no longer have to block 240lb linebackers, why am I still doing squats and cleans? Old habits die hard I guess.
Cardio – 10/10 – Really a great selection of machines that are always in good working order. You rarely have to wait and there are enough TVs for everyone to watch something they like. The best cardio room in the city in my opinion.
Weights – 8/10 – Descent, better than some, not as good as others. Your basic equipment – 2 bench press racks but only 1 squat rack which is a pain. The cables are usually in working order and they do have a nice selection of Hammer Strength machines that let you mix it up. One complaint I have is that the dumbbells top out at 100lbs, but there’s a good selection otherwise.
Aerobics/Stretching – 7/10 – The Aerobics studio is standard but a little small. The abs/stretching room is really small, accommodating only about 5 people at a time which makes it crammed during peak hours.
Staff – 7/10 – Friendly and helpful, but I’m not a great judge because I usually do my own thing.
Patrons – 10/10 – Of all the gyms in the city, I find the clientele at FitnessWorld Kits the easiest to sweat beside. No real meat-heads, everyone is pretty conscious of everyone else, and well, to put it tactfully, the spandex fits better in Kits than in other parts of the city – it is the home of LuLu Lemon afterall.
Overall – 9/10 – Big, clean, expertly maintained machines, and the best cardio room in the city…and did I mention the spandex?
